Rainbow Trout are a favorite of Lake Isabella as well as upper and lower Kern River anglers. Rainbow trout has a delicious pink meat and is known to be a good fighter!

Brown Trout
|
Brown Trout are often caught in Lake Isabella, they tolerate warmenr waters and tend to seek more cover than the Rainbow Trout. They spook easier than rainbows making them a little trickier to catch. Still a fun fish to catch, especially the big ones!

Native Golden Trout
|
Native Golden Trout are notactually found in the lake. They prefer the higher altitudes of the upper Kern River although I have heard reports of them being taken in some of the local creeks. Fishing for Native Golden Trout is a whole different creature than lake fishing. Most anglers prefer to fly fish for these colorful beauties. Recent environmental regulations to protect this species has restricted stocking of other trout in the Kern River above the Kernville bridge.
